OVERSEAS MISSION RWANDA
Beginning in 1997 our Parish has supported the Rwandan community in Hobart. Our members have been instrumental in establishing the Rwandan Coffee Club a trading name of the Rwandan Austrlalian Friendship Association Inc. Coffee sales have enabled the purchsae of over one hundred cows to distribute to farmers in Rwanda.. This has made a dramatic improvement in quality of live for the villagers concerned. Coffee sales have dropped off and we changed our sights to providing pigs on a minimal cash transfer scheme.
Our Association buys sows and establishes pig stys for a farmer on a cashless loan basis. the farmer repays the association the capital cost of establishment including sow and establishment maintenance by returning female piglets to the association to be the nucleus of a new cohort of growers or to be converted to cash to cover maintenance costs. A grower has to return ten weaners to cover establishment and maintenance ofer the establishment period. there is more information at donations will accelerate the rate of establishment of new cohorts of growers.
